  10. What education, training, qualifications (whether professional or vocational) and experience do you have which would be advantageous in being one of the 38 Deputies representing the people of Guernsey?
Would like to be Economic Development’s lead on tourism (the ‘champion’ for tourism in the States) from October 2020 onwards.

My business and political experience that will be advantageous and help me excel in this important role is as follows: Very relevant business experience: Director and shareholder of ad agency and controlled the marketing of many Channel Islands companies including hotels, restaurants, attractions, ferry company and a major tour operator to Guernsey and Jersey. Now own and run non-conflicting off-island niche ski tour operator. Experience chartering flights with both Aurigny and Blue Islands.

Very relevant political experience: Member of PSD so de facto director of Guernsey Airport and Guernsey Harbours, also member of External Transport Group. Member of C+L so de facto director of Guernsey Musuems, also political rep on Sports, Arts and Language Commissions and Events Group.

  11. What is your present occupation and what other positions have you held in the past ten years either as employee or employer (in the case of present or former States’ members please include outside work done (if any) whilst serving as a member)?
Owner, Holiday Direct Ski, 2010-2012; Deputy, 2012-2016; Owner, Allez Ski, 2016 onwards.

  12. Do you intend to carry on working besides fulfilling your duties as a States’ member if elected?
It is my intention to continue to run Allez Ski on a part-time basis. I only operate February half-term ski holidays but continuing with this small business will give me valuable ‘real-world’ experience that will help me be a better Deputy.

  13. Indicate how your qualifications and experience of life generally will bring value to the work of the States in the discharge of all its many functions, governmental, legislative and administrative. Indicate, if you wish, two particular committees where you feel you can make a contribution and which skills and attributes you have which would fit you for such roles.

  14. Give details of any team or project activity in which you have engaged within the last five years where you feel you have contributed to benefitting your employment or community: (a) in your work (b) in your voluntary charitable, sporting or social life.
In business, I take hundreds of islanders on direct ski holidays to the Alps each year, each time with 100% customer satisfaction according to the post-holiday survey. Many clients have booked for four years in a row.

In community, I am currently volunteering to help the Guernsey Sports Commission to create a new strategic plan for the Guernsey Netball Association. Plan has been approved as a concept by the GSC and the GNA and is progressing well. I am now helping to make it happen.

  15. What is the first thing (if any) you would like to change in the present practices or procedures (not the policies) of the States of Deliberation?
Would like to be Economic Development’s lead on tourism (the ‘champion’ for tourism in the States) from October 2020 onwards. I am putting forward a clear four-point that is achievable and within the scope of government. I think it benefits the electorate to know exactly what role a candidate wants and exactly what they want to achieve on that department. I also think it benefits the electorate to know exactly what relevant experience that I have.

  16. What do you regard as the prime attribute or special skill you have to serve the island as a deputy?
A proven ability to deliver innovative solutions rather than dwell on problems. Track record of challenging conventional thinking on a back-to-basics approach. Social skills to establish a positive working rapport with anybody and everybody. Comfortable and confident working as part of a team and, when required, leading projects.

  17. Given that matters can rarely be decided unanimously, are you able to respect the majority decision of a team or committee of which you are a member after respectful and informed debate?
    Yes.

  18. Any other comments you wish to add:
With battle-hardened experience as a Deputy, I will refuse to get stuck in the paralysis of politics and I am willing to bang heads together to make things happen. My focus will never be on the next election, it will always be on the next generation. 100% independent candidate.
